Collagen production through stem cells for plastic surgery

Collagen is used in many cosmetic surgery procedures, and one firm is pioneering a method to use non-embryonic stem cells to create it.

The biotechnology development firm Healtheuniverse has applied for a patent for the company’s method of producing collagen with stem cells from adults.

This is the first time a company has used non-embryonic stem cells for plastic and cosmetic surgery.

Collagen derived from stems cells is perfect to reduce wrinkles and contour irregularities and for breast enhancement, according to Dr. Vipul Dev, chief executive officer of Healtheuniverse.

By utilising adult stem cells via Healtheuniverse's packaged product, we hope to effectively engineer fat tissue and provide worldwide access to the technology for a variety of commercial surgical and cosmetic applications.

The company plans to market the technology through plastic and cosmetic surgeons in the countries covered by the patent agreement when clinical trials are completed.
