An increasing number of individuals are turning to cosmetic surgery to enhance their looks.
The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons report that both women and men are choosing cosmetic surgery; in 2006, nearly 26,500 women had procedures compared to 19,600 in 2005, says Shami Choudry, PR manager for Transform.
Cosmetic surgery has a dramatically different image among consumers over the last decade, according to the expert.
People have access to reality television programmes like "Ten Years Younger," where they watch transformations they can relate to.
Ms. Choudry points to a number of well-known celebrities who openly talk about their cosmetic surgery. Fans accept the advice of individuals like Jordan, Demi Moore and Sharon Osbourne, who recommend different procedures.
People in the UK have more access to cosmetic surgical procedures, which are becoming more affordable. In addition they have access to more information, they read and discuss cosmetic surgery and they are subject to the culture of celebrity gossip.
Many people are not candidates for cosmetic surgery, including people under the age of 18.
People do not have realistic expectations, their bodies have not matured, or they just do not need the surgical procedure, revealed Ms. Choudry. Every case is evaluated on an individual basis.
