Britons borrow to enhance appearance

Loans for cosmetic surgery procedures may amount to £1.4 billion, according to financial experts.

Researchers at Abbey Loans have discovered that more than 900,000 Britons plan to borrow money to pay for cosmetic surgery. Most women are anticipating breast enlargement surgery.

Breast enhancement surgery accounts for more than 25 percent of all cosmetic surgery, and tummy tucks run a close second.

Nearly one-third of the potential borrowers were men, indicating that women are not alone in their desire to have a great body, say Abbey Loans researchers.

Requests for funds to pay for plastic surgery are increasing, according to Paul Morrish, head of Abbey Loans.

Whether striving for visible perfection or as part of a medical treatment, plastic surgery is getting more and more popular amongst Britons, he said.

According to the survey’s findings, a considerable number of Britons will travel to eastern Europe for their procedures. The US attracts 2 percent of medical tourists.
