Tissue from hips can make skin smoother

Doctors in the UK may soon use cells removed from a patient’s hips to do a new type of cosmetic surgery.

Surgeons use liposuction to remove fat from the patient’s hips, then separate the stem cells, which can be used to generate different types of cells.

The stem cells can fill out the patient’s skin, producing a more youthful look, when injected into tissue in the face.

The FAMI procedure (Fat Auto-Graft Muscle Injection) lets a woman age more gracefully, according to Dr. Roger Amar, French cosmetic surgeon.

Women no longer must choose between improving their face or their body, he told the Sun.

The FAMI procedure can help patients who do not want more invasive surgical procedures to achieve fuller, smoother faces.

Patients receive a local anesthetic and can return to their own home after surgery, rather than making a prolonged stay in the hospital, making FAMI more convenient for many.

Stem cells are being considered for breast enlargement surgery, using the patient’s own tissue to augment her breasts.
