The number of Britons turning to cosmetic surgery has increased 12 percent over last year, according to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS). Breast implant surgery continues to be the most frequently asked-for procedure.
Nearly 7,000 patients had breast implants, according to association data. Other popular procedures included eye lifts, face lifts, neck lifts, liposuction and breast reduction surgery.
Women had the overwhelming majority of cosmetic surgery procedures. Men comprised only 9 percent of cosmetic surgery patients, yet physicians report a large increase in the number of men asking for rhinoplasty.
In addition, men underwent liposuction, had their eyes lifted, their ears fixed and underwent face lifts and neck lifts.
The increasing number of surgical patients indicates that people are more open to cosmetic surgery, according to Dr. Douglas McGeorge, president of the BAAPS.
The public is learning more about surgical procedures through media reports. Still, Dr. McGeorge urges patients to do their research before selecting a surgeon.
