Ear Surgery

Self-consciousness regarding appearance and the inherent lack of self esteem so often its counterpart, can come simply through the perception of having prominent or badly-shaped ears, or ears that have been damaged through accident or mishap. Recent reviews have discovered that, as well as women, many more men are now becoming troubled or sensitive by the appearance of their ears, and are seeking ways and means of improving their looks in this area.

Plastic and cosmetic ear surgery procedures can now easily remedy this problem area, by reshaping or completely altering the ears to give a much more pleasing and attractive appearance and give the face an entirely different symmetry.

In plastic surgery terms, the operation, generally performed under anaesthesia, is relatively simple and straightforward. To keep scarring down to the minimum, an incision is made in the natural fold of the back of the ear, and tissue, cartilage and excess skin, are carefully removed and the ear is then delicately reshaped. The remodelled ear is then held in to shape or pinned back with stitches.

The surgery itself will generally take about an hour, and usually the patient will be allowed home on the same day. Full recovery should take little more than a week, though the patient may be advised to keep bandages on for several more weeks to assist full natural healing. Dependant on the type of work done by the patient, a return to work may be possible after just a week, though strenuous exercise should be avoided for up to a month.
