Calf Implants

Because women’s legs tend to form a major part of their attraction and are often on show, it’s natural that they would want them to appear shapely, sleek and well defined. Men, on the other hand, may simply desire to have legs with a bulkier, more muscular appearance.

Both requirements can be easily achieved through the cosmetic surgery technique of calf implants.

The operation proceeds with small incisions being made in the crease at the back of the knee, an area scarcely visible and thereby ideal for disguising any temporary scarring. The implants, usually of silicone, are then inserted around the small muscles formed within this area. Incising the toughened ligament just above the knee relieves any pressure caused by this natural expansion.

The surgery usually takes place under anaesthesia, and can take up to two hours to complete. An overnight stay for monitoring purposes will be most often recommended.

Generally only dissolvable stitches will be used in this type of cosmetic surgery, so there will no stitches or sutures to be removed.

Immediately following surgery, walking may prove difficult for a few days. As the knee area is particularly susceptible to any kind of pain, medication is usually offered to mitigate this. Some swelling and bruising can also be expected, though this should reduce substantially within a few days.

A week of complete rest is usually recommend immediately after the operation, and a full return to full normal activity should be achieved within five or six weeks.
