Arm Lifts / Reductions

One of the major advantages of modern plastic and cosmetic surgery is that it can, to some extent, reverse the physical signs of ageing.

This is particularly so with the cosmetic technique of arm lift and reduction surgery. The aim of Arm Lifts and Arm Reductions is to remove the loose, sagging tissue of the upper arm, which tends to hang down like a surplus wing of flesh on the lower side of the arm.

Very prevalent in the elderly and middle-aged, this sagging condition can also form after extensive weight loss.

Plastic surgery is straightforward, and involves the removal of the excess skin and incorporated subcutaneous tissue through a process of delicate surgery. Unfortunately, some small scarring may result, although this will fade in time and the patient should eventually be able to wear short-sleeved clothing with confidence.

The surgery usually takes place under anaesthesia, and can take up to two hours to complete. A one or two night’s further hospitalisation for monitoring purposes will often be recommended.

There will be some minimal bruising and swelling as a result of the surgery, and the arm may feel tight or stiff for a while. All stitches and sutures should be extracted within two to three weeks.

Support garments are usually worn for the first few weeks to assist the healing process, and antibiotics will be prescribed to prevent any risk of infection.

Generally, full recovery takes upwards of four to five weeks, with post-operative monitoring visits required in between.
